Crossplay means playing together
Jagex introduced crossplay with 1.0. When a host loads a multiplayer world, they can choose whether to enable crossplay. Crossplay-enabled worlds appear in the world browser, and the option is also available for dedicated servers. The launch news release says crossplay is available across the released PC and console platforms.
Invite codes can help a friend find the right world. The code is shown in the host’s pause menu and entered in the world browser by the joining player. See the joining guide for the short flow.
Cross-save means moving a save—and that is different
Jagex’s PlayStation 5 FAQ explicitly says progress does not carry over across platforms. Steam Cloud Save support does not turn an existing Steam world or character into a transferable console save. You can use a Steam character to crossplay with friends on another platform, but that is playing together online, not migrating the save to their device.
| Question | Officially supported answer |
|---|---|
| Can PC and console players share a crossplay-enabled world? | Yes, according to the 1.0 launch materials. |
| Will an Early Access Steam save become a PlayStation save? | No, Jagex says platform saves do not transfer. |
| Is Steam Cloud Save the same as cross-platform save? | No; Jagex mentions Steam Cloud separately from platform transfer. |
Before buying a second copy for save transfer, use the current platform policy and the live store listing, because crossplay alone does not solve that requirement.
