Watch the two survival meters
Food and water are immediate concerns in the tutorial. Jagex’s help article points to the meters at the lower left of the screen and warns that low levels affect health and recovery. Gather berries when you see them, but continue the teaching quests so you learn a repeatable way to produce cooked food and drinkable water.
Get the water Doric asks for
Doric marks two ponds on the map. Travel to one, collect Dirty Water and bring it back. The map and the compass quest marker are more dependable than a coordinate copied from a screenshot, so this guide does not give an unverified map grid reference.
Dirty Water becomes useful when you have a campfire. During Vannaka’s cooking lesson, add the water and fuel to the campfire and process it into Clean Water. Carry some with you when you leave the starting area.
Craft a table before the club
Pick up Ash Logs and Stone in Temple Woods. Enter build mode and place a Crafting Table; then craft the Stone Club at that table. The table is a foundation for later recipes, while the club lets you complete the first combat task. The official tutorial does not require an elaborate building before this step.
Cook the first meat
Vannaka sends you to the rats near the abandoned windmill. The tutorial asks for four pieces of Raw Rat Meat and two Roast Rats. Build a campfire, provide fuel and cook the meat. Return with the cooked food to advance and receive the tutorial’s next tools.
